ADULT:  Wingspan 25 - 40mm.  A typical 'Thorn-like' moth with the resting position taken with wings held upright and slightly spread.  The general colour is yellowish with the area between the outer edge of the wing and outer cross line of a mauve-grey to grey-brown appearance.  On the hindwing the grey brown transverse line hides a small discal spot. LARVA: The caterpillar feeds on Ash but can be found on others shrubs including Privet. BEHAVIOUR: Overwinters as an egg.  Attracted to light. HABITAT:  Woodland, parks, urban areas and gardens. FLIGHT PERIOD: August to early October.  STATUS: Resident and frequent in England and Wales becoming scarcer to the north.
